On 26th January our school nurse, Mrs. Aldona
Celebucka, had the lesson with students from II D grade. This is also one of our
sports classes, therefore, the lesson had the same subject as the previous one that students from III D grade participated in.

Breakfast breaks (Poland)
Why should children have second breakfast at school?
It
is generally said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Nonetheless, it is also claimed that in order to support your metabolism one
should eat every 3-4 hours. In this respect the importance of second breakfast
is also stressed. It provides children with necessary energy and nutrients. Due
to that they can focus more on lessons and be more active during various school
activities. What is more, as children are generally prone to sweets and fast
food, by introducing the idea of ‘breakfast break’ the school helps parents in
shaping healthy eating habits and health awareness that will last for life.
What should second breakfast include?
- whole wheat bread – it has a positive influence on the digestive system and provides our body with energy, proteins, B vitamins, magnesium, zinc and fiber
- milk and other dairy products – yoghurt, cheese
- meat – for example ham
- fruit and vegetables – you can have tomatoes, chicory, pepper, lettuce with your sandwiches
- drinks – the most advisable are water, natural fruit and vegetable juices or diary drinks.
Taking all that into account several years ago
our school has launched a programme of ‘Second Breaks’. The main aim of this
activity is to devote 5 minutes of the second school break to eating your
sandwiches, fruit and vegetables. During that time students are not allowed to
go outside of the classroom but they have to spend time with their friends
inside while eating and talking to each other. It is also the meaningful moment
for teachers who have the chance of getting to know their students better.
This
experience we found rewarding enough as to share it with our partners abroad
and to promote it within the frames of Erasmus+ programme. We have noticed that
students quickly get used to this routine and we implement it consistently starting
from the early years of the primary school. This is done with close cooperation
with the parents who are responsible for preparing healthy snacks for their
kids.

Not only it is important to focus on your physical
condition, but you should also pay attention to your food, as nowadays there
are a lot of chemical substances added to it, which highly influence our
health. Therefore, it is advisable to buy organic food which is considered to
be more natural and healthy. In Toruń there are several shops in which you may
buy eco-products.
1. Eco Chata, ul.
Szosa Chełmińska 141
2. Eko-Zdrowie,
ul. Konstytucji 3 Maja 10
3. Żółty
Cesarz, ul. Mickiewicza 114 a
4. EKO-POL,
ul. Działowskiego 87
5. Smaki
Wakacji, ul. Szosa Lubicka 164 A
In those shops
you will find organic food which has not been tested on animals, which was
produced without pesticides and which is suitable for people suffering from
various intestines diseases and food allergies.
